Our History
 |
PeaceSigns is a project of PeaceRoots Alliance, an organization formed after 9/11. We began to look into the cost of running full page ads in various newspapers and the cost was extremely high for the amount of exposure they produce.
Dave Maize, a PRA volunteer in Oregon, took the initiative to look into the possibility of doing billboards and discovered that nonprofit organizations can get a special rate, making these visible statements a very real option. |
Within the space of a about a month, the "PeaceSigns" billboard campaign had come to life, as billboards that shows an American Flag, a dove of peace and the words "Peace Is Patriotic" began appearing in metropolitan areas throughout the country including San Francisco, Tucson, Reno, Denver, Cleveland, and more. The goal has been to put forth the idea that those who take a stand against war love this country and the freedom it represents...and it is working.
To date, over 200 billboards with various messsages for peace have been posted and we plan to continue to keep the ball rolling.
In addition to the exposure created by the billboards themselves, articles about the Signs of Peace project have appeared in several newspapers and on various news web sites. Instead of paying outrageous fees for advertising space, we have become the news, delivering real leverage on the donations we receive.
Although the efforts of the peace movement are often ignored by the mainstream media, the PeaceSigns project brings our message directly to the millions of people in this country who do not believe that war is the answer and lets them know they are not alone.
To continue, we need your help. You can donate to help cover the costs of our next billboards online. If you would like to have our PeaceSigns billboards in your city please contact us by emailing info@peacesigns.org
